Milk & Honey Market is a celebration of all that is available locally.
Philadelphians are a lucky bunch–we eat very well! Everyday our city receives the incredible edible bounty of Lancaster county and other nearby farmsteads. In the hands of chefs, artisanal bakers, chocolatieres and home cooks all over the city this bounty is further transformed in glorious ways.
Get in on this deliciousness at Milk & Honey Market.
Our shelves and fridges are stocked with everything we love from right nearby. From the freshest raw ingredients to sweet treats… we have it.
Why buy locally grown and produced? The food speaks for itself!
One bite of our Caprese sandwich – with mozzarella cheese made this morning at Claudio’s in the Italian Market, on today’s Metropolitan Bakery bread with a just-picked, red, ripe tomato and bright green basil hand-tended in Glen Brenndle’s Green Meadow Farm greenhouse– and the tastes are all you need to know. The freshness is undeniable, the flavors are transporting. They are crisp and rich, tangy, salty and sweet, everything the best and freshest should be.
When purchasing food that has had a minimal amount of travel time to get to your plate, you are doing more than just
treating yourself to gastronomic superiority. You are putting your money where your mouth is to influence beneficial change.
Supporting the local food system is one way to do our part for a sustainable future. Purchasing locally grown isimportant to our health and the planet’s. Small local farms in our area are at the forefront of sustainable farming practices, working hard to not use harmful chemical fertilizers and fungicides.
The fruits and vegetables we carry may not always be uniform, they may not always be as pretty as those at a large super market chain and they usually will not be as cheap.
But there are a few questions to ask yourself when deciding to purchase local, organic, industrialized or conventional – if bugs wont eat it should you? And seriously – should FOOD be cheap?

Philadelphia has long been a city of chefs who support local farmer, building relationships that benefit everyone from farmer to diner, but the path from farm to retail shelf is one we are blazing.
We proudly followed the lead of some exceptional markets in our city: Fair Food Farm Stand in Reading Terminal Market, Almanac Market in Northern Liberties, and Pumpkin Market in Graduate Hospital. Since we opened so have, Green Aisle in South Philly, Good Food Market in Chestnut Hill and Healthy Bites in Greys Ferry. All are outstanding markets, working, as we are to bring as much local product to town as possible. Visit them all to support this movement and let your favorite farmer at your neighborhood market know that these outlets exist.
The reasons to support the little guys are innumerable. We all eat better for it!
